Janet's TAKE: #TheFalloftheAmericanEmpire is a slightly different approach to the standard heist film. A good lead performance by Alexandre Landry helps
keep things interesting. Grade/B+

While a bit overlong and at times slow-paced, the relationships and situations make this film worth seeing.

Synopsis:
Pierre-Paul Daoust, 36, an intellectual with a PhD in philosophy is forced to work as a deliveryman to afford a decent living. One day, while delivering a parcel, he gets caught in a hold up gone terribly wrong: two dead and millions in money bags laying on the ground. Pierre-Paul is confronted with a dilemma leave empty handed, or take the money and run? This new Denys Arcand film takes a look at, as only Arcand knows how, the predominance of money in a society where all other values seem to have crumbled. -Sony Picture Classics

Janet's TAKE: #2heartsthefilm depicts a based-on-a-true story in an unimaginative and formulaic way. While the effort is commendable in its message of sacrifice and service, it is entirely predictable. The main character (narrator) tries too hard to be charming and this feels forced. There wasn't any chemistry between either of the two romances. If you are looking for a slightly above-average Lifetime style film, this should fit the bill. Janet's TAKE: Even though #Nomadland is a sad commentary on the effects of the recession in the last decade, it still brings an uplifting message of camaraderie, support and friendship for the nomadic lifestyle that exists in America today. Grade/A- Frances McDormand and David Strathairn expertly portray their characters alongside Chloé Zhao's portraiture-style direction that includes professional actors working with real people playing themselves and telling their stories. THE BROKEN HEARTS GALLERY movie review

Janet's TAKE: #BrokenHeartsGallery is a sweet and mostly engaging twenty-something romantic comedy.  You know exactly where it's going, but getting there with talented star Geraldine Viswanathan is the best part of this journey.  An optimistic date movie that is just what's needed today. The supporting cast is perfect for this genre and it's nice to see Bernadette Peters back on the screen.
